New Members Appointed to Gaming Foundation Board

first_img The new board members join Hubert Devine, Joseph Marsh, and chair Russell Oehmen. The board met for the first time on Wednesday, Sept. 28. “We are proud to welcome these members to our board,” said Anne Jackman, executive director of the foundation. “We look forward to working with them to better address the consequences of problem gambling at the community level.” The Nova Scotia Gaming Foundation is a not-for-profit, arms-length government organization. It offers funding to Nova Scotia community groups and researchers to help address the consequences of problem gambling. Dave Whiting, of Yarmouth, a former RCMP officer and public administrator from South Ohio who brings 10 years of policing experience to the board. Jack Novack, of Halifax, a recipient of the Lieutenant-Governor’s Medal for Excellence in public administration and a faculty member at Dalhousie University. Jim MacCormack, of Ben Eoin, who spent 39 years in the public service with the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. Theresa O’Leary, of the Margaree Valley, who operates her own law practice and provides the board with 12 years of legal experience. Tracy Schrans, of Boutiliers Point, the principal and vice-president of Focal Research Consultants Ltd. Focal’s research is considered to be at the forefront of gambling research, both nationally and internationally. Five new members have joined the experienced and diverse board of the Nova Scotia Gaming Foundation. A former RCMP officer, an academic, a public administrator, a lawyer, and a gambling researcher are among the new appointments made by Health Promotion Minister Rodney MacDonald. “All members provide the board with a level of integrity, honesty, and trust that is expected by Nova Scotians,” said Mr. MacDonald. “Volunteer boards are one way that community representatives from many regions can work together for the betterment of the whole province.” The new members are:last_img
