Rahaman family lights up 54-foot artificial Christmas tree

first_imgHundreds turned out yesterday to witness the grand lighting up of the 54-foot artificial Christmas tree at Rahaman’s Park, Greater Georgetown.This is the 12th year for the event, and according to the Rahamans, it is one that people look forward to. Delivering brief remarks, Business Minister Dominique Gaskin commended the Rahaman family for hosting the event for the 12th consecutive year, and thanked the contributors who come together every year to witness the tree being lit.“Every Christmas, this spot becomes the real entrance to Georgetown, especially at nights, when this beautiful tree is lit,” he said.Minister Gaskin underscored that, during this season, everyone is urged to put aside their differences and “share the Christmas spirit across our beautiful multi-ethnic country”.He posited, too, that the message of peace and goodwill is “extremely important for nation building”.“(It is important) not only to have the economy growing, and for us to improve our social services, but for us also to integrate more and more with each other,” he offered.The event featured performances by the choirs of the Eccles Assembly of God Church, the Bishops’ High School, the Success Elementary School and the Brickdam Cathedral. In addition, a Linden masquerade band performed for those who were present at the event.last_img
