Sumner Newscow weekly poll: The Cowley College in Wellington question

first_imgWhat’s your initial reaction to a 1/2 cent sales tax proposal to build a Cowley College Campus in Wellington? Yes, this would be a great investment for Wellington. I need to know a more about the proposal before making a decision. No. Taxes are high enough. I don’t think we need Cowley College here. But this I am 100% behind, when I am out visiting other towns the ones that grow seem to have a college campus. Having an off shoot of the college will benefit all in Sumner County and the County should dedicate some of their 1% to this from the Casino payout and the Kansas Star match the amount. In less than yrs the County has made 1% of $835,477,472 total amount the state has allowed the casino take out of locals pockets. Of which Sumner Co. got $8.354,774.72 I do believe that can help this cause a lot. I would hate to see the City make the same mistake twice. More jobs, more infrastructure, more day time visitors, long term investments, etc. etc. I understand that the tax increase will hurt, but this is one time where the investment will be absolutely worth it. If some for-profit wants to set up here, let them feed the slot machine. Like 10 years ago and they picked up and left. Why was that? Report Reply 0 replies · active 212 weeks ago +1 Vote up Vote down Skeptic · 211 weeks ago Seems like another “Build it and they will come” scenario which has constantly failed in Wellington. Please go find at me at least 150 families that have moved here because of a new swimming pool, new high school, new parking lot at Worden Park, new grass/irrigation system at golf course, etc. Then find another 100 families that will move here because of Cowley College. Remember, they did try a small facility here as well as Mulvane only to see them fold up. The only thing that has remotely fit the “Build it and they will come” is the new Law Enforcement Center. That really brought them in! Report Reply 0 replies · active 211 weeks ago Post a new comment Enter text right here!
