Neymar-Barcelona Saga Rumbles On…

first_imgThe fued between Brazilian forward Neymar and his former club Barcelona is showing no signs of ending anytime soon after new reports emerged that the PSG star wants the Catalan outfit thrown out of the UEFA Champions League (UCL).This was reportedly contained in a letter sent to UEFA by Neymar’s legal team over an outstanding loyalty payment owed by the club. The European football body has however not responded to the letter from Neymar and his representatives.Trouble started when the 25-year-old left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in August for a world-record fee of €222 million, less than a year after he penned a new five-year contract with the Spanish club.Neymar and his entourage are adamant that Barcelona owe the former Santos forward a €26m loyalty bonus stipulated in the contract extension he signed with the Nou Camp giants.World football’s ruling body, FIFA, had earlier revealed in August that they are investigating an official complaint from Neymar against Barcelona. From their own standpoint, Barcelona are withholding the said loyalty payment on the grounds that the Brazilian star breached the terms of his contract by speaking with PSG over a move. The La Liga had also opened a separate case in August demanding that Neymar return the “renewal premium” the club paid to him when he signed his new contract last year. They are asking for the return of €8.5m, plus 10 per cent in arrears, with Barcelona insisting that PSG pay on his behalf if the former Santos forward is unable to pay.Relatedlast_img
