Share (L-R): Miss Dominica, Nadira Lando signing as a witness to the MOU while LIME’s General Manager Jeffrey Baptiste and NYC’s President, Fernella Wenham looks on.A local telecommunications company, LIME Dominica, has partnered with the National Youth Council (NYC), the Dominica State College (DSC) and one of the most local popular artistes, Asa “Asa Banton” Edwards.At a press conference on Wednesday, General Manager of LIME Dominica announced that this partnership with the youth is the company’s way of “influencing” and “shaping” the lives of the youth for the future development of the country.Baptiste noted that he was “engulfed with a deep sense of accomplishment” to announce this historic partnership with the youth as his company is “focused on transforming the lives of the youth”.According to him, “LIME has an unmovable commitment to the NYC to help them deliver their mandate to the youth of Dominica”.LIME Dominica has signed a memorandum of understanding with the NYC in which they have agreed to provide the Council with free fixed line telephone services, free broadband internet, a closed user group in which executive members of the council can communicate with each other, a booth at LIME’s Creole In The Park (CITP) annual event to assist them with their fundraising drive as well as provide support to them for the execution of their programs for the rest of 2012.NYC’s President Fenella Wenham commended LIME for this partnership, stating that this will be a “duly beneficial” relationship which can be viewed as LIME’s engagement with the youth.Asa “Asa Banton” Edwards (seated first from right) and beside him is Miss Dominica, Nadira LandoLIME also announced its endorsement of Asa Banton whose popularity has grown rapidly among the youth particularly primary school students who know most if not all of his songs word for word.Baptiste described him as “the most popular, influencing voice communicating with the youth today with respect to entertainment” and LIME saw the need to partner with him so as to have an influence on the message which is delivered to the youth.“Asa is an influencing voice for our young people. So we can do one of two things as responsible adults, as responsible cooperate citizens. We can step back and just allow it to happen, we may have an opinion; nice, not too nice, maybe he should or shouldn’t, we can have a debate in private around what the reality is. Or we can step forward and attempt to influence the way that message is delivered to the youth or the image that is being shown to the young people. We opted to do the later”.From today, June 6th, 2012, Asa Banton will be recognized “as a LIME artiste to safeguard our students,” Baptiste said.Meanwhile, Edwards in his remarks said that he was “proud to be a LIME artiste” announcing his plans to host a school tour as per requests from several principals asking him to visit their school and speak to their students. Edwards’ manager Tilly Thomas told Dominica Vibes News that the school bus tour will include motivational talks with the students.“Asa will visit the schools with a television crew to have a motivational talk for about an hour. He will speak to them on positive topics. We want to focus on the violence that is going on in the schools, sexual abuse, drugs and other encouraging topics. He will also perform some of his songs to interact with the students”.This school bus tour he hopes will get underway at the commencement of the new school term in September, 2012.Dominica Vibes Newslast_img
